Meiers Corners is a neighborhood that is straddling the Staten Island Expressway. It got its name from a Dutch immigrant named Joachim Meier who lived at the historic Martling-Cozine House.
1n 1964, Meiers Corners' population increased due to the opening of the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge. This prompted the government to build Susan E. Wagner High School at the south end of the neighborhood. This school was named after the late wife of the then mayor Robert F. Wagner Jr.
