About Bloomfield, NY

Located at the West Shore of Staten Island is the neighborhood of Bloomfield. Originally, very few lived in this area and most of it was used as storage for heavy equipment like cement mixers. There was also a large oil storage terminal that was supervised by Gulf Oil. A notable incident happened on February 10, 1973 where forty workers were crushed to death by a concrete cap on one TETCo natural gas tanks. An ignition occurred and caused the cap to rise in the air and crashing down to the workers below.  

It was in the early 2000s that commercial development started to develop rapidly in the area. The vast expanse of open space made many developers interested to invest in Bloomfield.
