The 2022 Volvo V60 is a high performance vehicle with a wonderful interior and hybrid based powertrain. But how does it stack up against the 2022 Mercedes-Benz A Class, an impressive sedan with crisp styling, outstanding value and a very comfortable riding experience?
Design & Style
The Mercedes-Benz A Class is compact and full of panache. The interior is classy and illuminated by ambient lighting which comes in sixty four different hues and it has four doors with a roofline that is traditional. The exterior is poised and balanced, and while those in the front seats with have more than enough room, the second row is a bit limited. Still, every surface is covered in upmarket materials such as authentic leather and natural wooden trim.
The Volvo V60 features a serene cabin with plush seats that feel soothing to the touch. Those that purchase the Momentum Edition will get eighteen inch wheels with glossy dark colored accents in the exterior and Linear Lime based wooden trim on the inside. Those that pay extra will be treated to nappa style leather upholstery, and while the majority of these cars come with front wheel drive, all-wheel drive is also available.
Technology & Safety
The Volvo V60 has received a perfect five star rating from the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) and for good reason. Its safety features include impact avoidance, standardized emergency automated brakes, lane departure notifications, the ability to detect pedestrians and semi-autonomous operation with cruise control that is adaptive. Luxuries within its cabin include Sensus infotainment, climate control and a sound system from Harman Kardon.
The Mercedes-Benz A Class also comes with standardized automated emergency brakes as well as multiple airbags and the ability to monitor blind spots. It has cruise control that is adaptive, and those that pay extra can install a system which automatically steers the vehicle away from pending impacts. Luxuries within its cabin include ten inch displays, a Burmester audio system, ventilated seats, and wireless smartphone charging.
Performance
The Mercedes-Benz A Class comes with a turbo 4, 2 liter engine that can generate 188 horsepower that works in conjunction with a seven speed automatic dual clutch transmission, which enables it to accelerate from zero to sixty in just over seven seconds. The Volvo V60 is equipped with a four cylinder, turbocharged engine that can generate 250 horsepower which can accelerate from zero to sixty in just 6.4 seconds.
The Bottom Line
The Mercedes-Benz A Class has a number of deficiencies. Its rear seat is too tight, its power and acceleration is lackluster and as a consequence it seems overpriced, which makes the Volvo V60 the winner.
